Due to ongoing concerns over the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus, the City of Pittsburgh is joining cities around the globe – including Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dublin, Ireland – in cancelling the St. Patrick’s Day parade planned for Saturday, March 14. Many arts and culture organizations are cancelling or postponing planned shows, or closing their doors until the spread of the virus is under control.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends avoiding mass gatherings and observing “social distancing.”

Local Asian Restaurant owners are reporting anywhere from a 20% to 40% decrease in production due to a misguided fear of contamination. Instead of going to large gatherings this weekend, we recommend patronizing the many excellent Asian businesses that call the Strip District home:

Lotus Food Company | 1649 Penn Avenue
Sambok Korean Groceries | 1735 Penn Avenue
WFH Oriental Market | 2306 Penn Avenue
Many More Asian Market | 3050 Smallman Street

Maiku Sushi and Pho | 1611 Penn Avenue
Moonlight Express |1806 Penn Avenue
Little Bangkok in the Strip | 1906 Penn Avenue
Pho Van | 2120 Penn Avenue

As people opt to stay home more in the weeks or months ahead, all kinds of small businesses will be impacted by lower sales.
